It might be May but winter still shows no sign of ending. In the past week there has been heavy snowfall across the Alps, right down to 1600 in certain areas.
Unfortunately many resorts closed after the Easter weekend, but there are still several open, where people have been enjoying close to a metre of fresh snow in places. Tignes and Val d’Isere are open until 11th May and after that Europe’s many glaciers will be open for summer shredding.
Conditions were far from spring-like at last week’s Snowboard Spring Break in Kauntertal, with scenes more reminiscent of mid winter than the end of April. All of next season’s boards were there to be tested but unsurprisingly the powder boards were in highest demand, with people queuing up to take them out for fresh tracks in the pow.
Thanks to glacier, Kaunertal is open until June, with others, such as Hintertux, open right through the summer, so if you’re not ready for winter to end, it doesn’t have to. Mother nature certainly isn’t!
