The snowboarding season may be drawing to a close but don’t despair as one of the best weeks in the British snowboarding calendar is still to come! On the 2nd of May, the UK snowboard scene will descend on the quiet Austrian resort of Kaunertal for a week of snowboard testing, fun events and partying at this year’s Spring Break!
Formerly known as The Snowboard Test, the event used to be an opportunity for brands to showcase next season’s gear to the UK’s snowboard retailers, media and riders, but two years ago organiser, Ian Sansom from The Reason magazine, opened it up to the public so that everyone could get in on the action.
We’ve been out for the past three years running and can personally vouch for its claim to be the best week of the year, and this year’s event is set to be the biggest and best yet!
Kauntertal sits at over 3000m and has a glacier so conditions are great right through to May. Last year it absolutely dumped with snow and there was fresh powder all week! It also has a huge terrain park with features to suit all levels of riders, as well loads of natural terrain with lots of fun hits.
One of the biggest attractions of Spring Break is the opportunity to be among the first to test out next season’s gear. All of the major brands will be there with their shiny new wares for you to ride, as well as loads of smaller brands. Check out the Spring Break website for the full list. It’s also your chance to hang out with and shred alongside some of the UK’s best riders. Jamie Nicholls, Billy Morgan and Will Smith have all been in attendance on previous years and Gigi Rüf has even been known to put in an appearance!
In addition to the board testing there’s also loads more going on both on and off the slopes. Highlights include the Whitelines Rail Jam, the Dragon Methodical Madness contest, Analog Après and endless parties.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that all this would make Spring Break pretty expensive, but it’s actually amazingly cheap, with packages starting from only £158 per person for 3 nights accommodation, 3 day lift pass, and all testing and entertainment. There are a range of different packages offering different durations and accommodation options to suit everyone.
If this all sounds too good to miss, that’s because it is! There’s still time to book, but be quick as bookings close at 6pm on Monday, 27th April. So, what are you waiting for? Head to the Spring Break website and get involved!SDUK Snowboarding News: Last chance to book for Spring Break!,
